The Carpet Bowls Club has been running since 1986. We have appproximately 30-members and meet at 7.30pm on a Wednesday evening when we play on two carpets (one has only recently been purchased to replace one of the older carpets). Membership is not restricted to the village, as we have members who travel from Belsay, Morpeth, Ponteland, Ogle and Kirkley Hall areas. We play friendly matches with other local clubs throughout the season, which runs from September to April, and these matches are played on a home and away basis. On club nights we have a cup of tes and a biscuit but when we host a match a full supper is provided - with Whalton being renowned for the standard of food! We have just completed our club championship matches for the season 2007 - 2008, where members play in Singles and Doubles knock-out competitions. Awards will be presented to the finalists of both competitions at our AGM in September. The position of club Captain is held for one year with the Treasurer and Secretary holding that office for two years. Since the inception of the club there has only been three Club Chairmen, Willy Scott from 1986 to 1995, Barry Swan from 1996 to 2004 and Geoff Thompson from 2005 to date. New members are always welcome, please come along on any club night, you will always be welcome.
